BLM Seeks Comments in Public Meetings
Taos, NM – The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is seeking input from the public about the proposed resource plan revision for the 1988 Taos Resource Management Plan in June. This plan will determine how landscapes are used on public lands managed by Taos. Early reviews indicate that the plan should be revised to address six issues: land ownership, land uses, scenic quality, special area designation, transportation and access, mineral materials, including oil and gas leasing. The Field Office manages the public lands of the north-central and north-east portions of New Mexico with the largest portions located in Rio Arriba, Santa Fe, and Taos Counties. Small scattered throughout the remaining area include Colfax, Harding, Los Alamos, Mora, San Miguel, and Union Counties. These nine counties cover about 15.5 million acres. BLM Taos manages 600,295 surface acres and 4,367,603 acres of federal mineral estate. Four public scoping meetings will be held. The formal scoping meetings will begin at 6:30 p.m. and run until 8:30 p.m.
Written comments will be accepted at the Taos Field Office, 226 Cruz Alta Road, Taos, NM 87571. The public comment period ends July 30, 2006. Comments will also be accepted online at www.nm.blm.gov/tafo/taos_rmpr/taos_rmpr.htm For further information, please contact Sharon “Sher” Churchill, NEPA Coordinator, at 505.758.8851. -BLM-
