What's New?

The Draft Rio Puerco Resource Management Plan is coming soon! We anticipate that it will be released in March 2012.

What Has Been Happening Since the End of Scoping?

Formal public scoping ended in September 2008. Since that time, we have completed the following:

  • Issued Scoping Report (Sept. 2008)
  • Prepared the Analysis of the Management Situation (AMS; Dec. 2009)
  • Developed alternatives (Apr. 2010)
  • Cooperating Agency review (Jun. 2010)
  • Impact analysis of alternatives (Oct. 2010)
  • Preparation of preliminary draft resource management plan and environmental impact statement (DRMP/EIS; Dec. 2010)
  • Internal review by BLM New Mexico State Office and Department of Interior Solicitors (Dec. 2010);
  • Internal review by BLM Washington Office (Feb. 2011); incorporation of WO comments (Apr. 2011);
  • Analysis of comments and revision of preliminary DRMP/EIS (July 2011).

What is the RPFO RMP Team Currently Working On?

We are incorporating changes in the “Non-WSA Lands with Wilderness Characteristics” sections in response to recent policy changes. We are also working on ensuring that our document addresses reasonably forseeable actions that have developed recently. Once these changes are made, we will publish our Notice of Availability in the Federal Register and make the document available for public comment.

When Can I Comment on the Plan?

The 90-day comment period for the DRMP/EIS begins when the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) publishes the Notice of Availability (NOA) in the Federal Register. The BLM may also publish a separate NOA to give additional information not contained in the EPA NOA, but the comment period beings with the publication of the EPA NOA.

How Can I Get a Copy of the Plan When it Becomes Available?

The DRMP/FEIS will be posted to this website when it is published. If you requested either a hard copy or a digital version on compact disc, we will send it to you (please let us know if your contact information has changed). All others will be able to download the document from our website. In addition, a hard copy will be available in our field office.

I Would Like to Know More About the Resource Managment Plan Revision Process

Are you wondering what the RMP is, why we have one, and why we have to revise it? Are you wondering how you can participate in our revision process? If so, you can find answers on the BLM National Land Use Planning Website. Topics on the website include:

  • Resource Management Plans and how these fit in with the NEPA process.
  • Map showing the status of land management plan revisions throughout the BLM
  • How you can take on-line Department of Interior Training to learn more about the RMP process.
  • How you can participate in the RMP revision process
