If you want to know all about the planning effort going on in the Rio Puerco Field Office in Albuquerque—this is the place!
The Rio Puerco Field Office Resource Management Plan Revision (RMPR) and Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) will analyze and update BLM’s management of public land in six New Mexico counties—Bernalillo, Cibola, McKinley, Sandoval, Torrance, and Valencia. That's nearly one million acres of public land in the planning area! We definitely have our work cut out for us.
What's important about this 4-5 year process, is that the plan revision will update current management in response to new legislation and policies, urban growth, and changing uses of public land and its resources.
The plan revision process, which began in March 2008, is expected to continue with plan implementation in March 2012. Visit this site periodically to follow along and participate with us as we proceed through the planning steps and inventory our resources and uses, develop alternatives to evaluate and assess, and select a plan to serve a variety of public uses into the future.
Formal public meetings are being announced in the Albuquerque Journal and other newspapers around the six affected counties. These public "scoping" meetings allowed the public to meet us and help us examine issues by resource and to gather public comments concerning the Rio Puerco RMPR. We are taking comments for the Scoping Report until May 31, 2008.
Invite us to your association meeting! If your group would like to invite us to your association meeting to speak about the RMP and what it means to you, give Joe Blackmon a call at (505) 761-8918. |
If you can't get your information in by then, don't worry, there are many other opportunities to comment. You have another chance to make general comments that will be taken in consideration for the analysis of alternatives until September 30, 2008. You can comment by email at nm_rpfo_comment@blm.gov and mail your comments to 435 Montaño NE, Albuquerque, NM 87107.
Remember, this process is about gathering information about what affects you and the land. Give us a call or drop us a note to let us know your interests, thoughts and ideas. We are here to listen and are anxious to hear your ideas.
