May 2012 Update
The administrative draft of the TriCounty Draft RMP/EIS is currently being reviewed by the BLM Washington Office. The National Program Leads will have three weeks to review and provide comments on the administrative draft. The Las Cruces District Office will then respond and incorporate those comments as necessary and prepare the document for publication. Prior to publication, the BLM New Mexico will brief the BLM Director on the Draft RMP/EIS. The publication will be announced in the Federal Register initiating the 90-day public comment period.
As the Las Cruces District Office moves forward with oil and gas leasing in the TriCounty planning area, the decisions pertaining to fluid minerals development in the 1986 White Sands RMP and 1999 Mimbres RMP remain in effect. The Las Cruces District Office will consider parcels nominated for Federal oil and gas leasing in the TriCounty planning area on a case-by-case basis until new guidance is available.
