Procedures for Requesting an Exception to Seasonal Drilling Restrictions
The Farmington Field Office is preparing a programmatic environmental assessment to determine the criteria that will be followed when evaluating oil and gas industry requests for exceptions to seasonal wildlife closures.  The deadline for submitting comments is August 20, 2008.

Fire Restrictions Lifted in the Pecos District
The BLM Carlsbad and Roswell Field Office's have rescinded fire restrictions for public land in Chaves, Lea, Eddy, Roosevelt, Guadalupe and De Baca Counties.

The BLM Las Cruces District Office has rescinded fire restrictions for public land in Otero, Luna, Dona Ana, Sierra, Grant and Hidalgo Counties.

Record of Decision and the Approved Special Status Species Resource Management Plan Amendment
	The BLM has approved a plan to protect two rare species of wildlife in southeastern New Mexico and enhance their habitat on public lands.  The BLM will adopt major elements of a conservation strategy for the lesser prairie-chicken and sand dune lizard and add measures to increase habitat protection for them.  News Release

Agreement To Fund Studies of Early Human History
A new program involving the BLM, State Historic Preservation Office, and the oil and gas industry will provide funding for research and educational studies of historic and cultural sites in southeast New Mexico.

Rio Puerco Field Office Planning Effort
A socio-economic workshop is being hosted by the BLM on July 29 and 31. The workshop will work to answer questions about the evolving nature of the West and to dispel myths about the local economy. Find out more. -new info available-

The U.S.  Forest Service and BLM have issued a final decision on the Buckman Water Diversion Project in Santa Fe. 

Partners for a Clean New Mexico 
Organizations and individuals are joining together as Partners for a Clean New Mexico to develop a plan to prevent illegal dumping on all lands within the State. 

Restore New Mexico BLM is working with landowners, other agencies and conservation partners to restore New Mexico’s landscapes.  This historic effort will benefit wildlife, people and the economy.
