Abstract:
The National Integrated Land System's (NILS) GeoCommunicator provides a Web Mapping Application and Map Service providing a spatial layer showing federal pending, authorized, and closed geothermal leases and agreements (units, participating areas, communitzation storage, development contract, etc), and geothermal known leasing areas.. The leases and agreements are issued by the Bureau of Land Management on lands where the federal government owns the mineral estate for the purpose of exploration and development of geothermal resources.  The geothermal leases and agreements in NILS have been converted from the BLM's Legacy Rehost (LR2000) system where the original case records are electronically maintained.
Purpose:
The purpose of this layer is to provide a multi-purpose nationwide dataset of geothermal lease and agreement parcels on federal lands that can be used in a GIS environment. The NILS GeoCommunicator web site is located at http://www.geocommunicator.gov

Mineral leasing can occur on federal lands or on non-federal lands where the federal government owns rights to the mineral estate.
