Abstract:

This coverage contains Public Land Survey System information for the Cimarron National Grassland, in the southwest corner of Kansas. The data is arranged into 2 region subclasses (themes): TOWNSHIPS SECTIONS. The land net portrayed is based upon the Forest Service's Primary Base Series maps, which are a variation of the United States Geological Survey's 7.5 minute topographic maps.

Purpose:

The purpose of this coverage is to provide a standardized base layer of Townships and Sections for U.S. Forest Service GIS applications. It is a by-product the Forest Service Automated Lands Project. This project is the conversion of the Forest Service's hard-copy Land Status base maps and associated LOS database to Arc coverages with an associated Oracle database. The resulting ALP product will provide tools to display and update land survey and land ownership information for Forest Service lands specialists, planners and land managers.
