Nominations for the Prescribed Fire On-the-Job Training (RX-OJT) Program

This Information Bulletin provides Bureau of Land Management (BLM) employees an opportunity to gain Prescribed Fire experience and to complete Position Task Books (PTBs). Trainees must meet the training and qualifications requirements for the position and have a PTB initiated. The prescribed fire assignments will target each individual’s PTB completion needs.

Nomination Process

The nomination process is accomplished by completing the "Nomination for Prescribed Fire Training Assignment" form. At this time, national office funding is not available. The candidate’s state office or home unit must cover travel, per diem, overtime, and base eight costs. Regardless of funding, candidates should submit a nomination in the event funding sources become available. Top priority for assignments will be given to those candidates with secured funding.

  • Each applicant must complete a nomination at the beginning of each fiscal year to be considered for the program.
  • Each applicant must fill out one nomination for each training position requested. Multiple position requests will not be accepted on a single nomination form.
  • All blocks must be completed.
  • Availability dates must be realistic and apply only to the current fiscal year (FY).
  • Nominations must be forwarded through their established chain of command for approval.
  • Upon approval, a state office official will e-mail the completed nomination form to Al Olson, BLM Prescribed Fire On-the-Job Training Program Coordinator at Al_Olson@nifc.blm.gov and cc Pam McDonald at Pam_McDonald@nifc.blm.gov.
