About the Honor Guard Members
The Honor Guard is composed of a cross-section of the BLM workforce from within the ranks of Fire and Aviation. Members represents the highest ideals of honor, dignity, professionalism and respect in serving the agency, the fire community, and the families, friends and co-workers of those who have lost their lives in the line of duty.
Full commitment to the program is essential and directly impacts the ability of the team to function at the highest-level possible. Members will be expected to commit for no less than a two-year period, and may remain an Honor Guard member until they can no longer fulfill the commitment or wish to retire from the Honor Guard. Members must stay in good standing in the Bureau.
Members are required to attend two scheduled drill sessions each year. These drills will be scheduled well in advance to allow adequate time for travel arrangements.

In addition to completing the application (click here), prospective recruits must obtain the following:
- A recommendation letter from one of the following individuals: State FMO, State Director or Fire and Aviation Branch/Division Chief (NIFC)
- One recommendation letter from the local Unit/District FMO.
