Fire and Aviation
Fire severity funding is the authorized use of suppression operations funds (normally used exclusively for suppression operations, and distinct from preparedness funds) for extraordinary preparedness activities that are required due to an abnormal increase in fire potential or danger, or to fire seasons that either start earlier or last longer than planned in the fire management plan.
Specific direction is stated in Chapter 10 of the Interagency Standards for Fire and Fire Aviation Management, which may be ordered through the National Fire Equipment System or found at http://www.nifc.gov/red_book/index.htm.
Please ensure that:
- Requests are for a maximum of 30days and are submitted prior to the end of the previous request.
- One statewide request (not a compilation of unit requests) is submitted.
- Requests are submitted using the templates provided below.
- Requests are submitted electronically to FA SEVERITY located in the BLM lotus notes address book.
