Subject: Errata to Interagency Standards for Fire and Fire Aviation Operations
(January 2007)
 
Program Area: Fire Management
 
Purpose: Amend the Interagency Standards for Fire and Fire Aviation Operations
(January 2007).
 
Policy/Action: This Instruction Memorandum provides errata to Interagency Standards for Fire and Fire Aviation Operations (January 2007), as follows:
Chapter 7
Delete page 07-7, line 43 through page 07-8, line 2.
Delete page 07-10, lines 2 through 6.
Delete page 07-14, line 42 through page 07-15, line 2.
Replace the deleted text with the following:
8-inch high, lace-type exterior leather work boots with non-slip, Vibram-type, melt-resistant soles. The 8-inch height requirement is measured from the bottom of the heel to the top of the boot. Alaska is exempt from the Vibram-type sole requirement. All boots (including nontraditional styles) that meet the footwear standard as described above are authorized for firefighting.
 
Chapter 9
Add the following text at page 09-10 line 45:
Roadside Response
Positioning of vehicles and employee awareness is paramount when responding to incidents in close proximity to roadways. Refer to Appendix T, “Roadside Incident Response” (Attachment 1), which highlights tactical considerations for roadway responses.
 
Chapter 13
Add the following text at page 13-6 line 43:
If, for any reason, a change in a firefighter’s medical status emerges between yearly exams, and that change prevents the firefighter from meeting any of the Wildland Firefighter Medical Standards, then the firefighter and their supervisor have an obligation to report this change to Comprehensive Health Services (CHS). Upon receipt of the information, CHS will make a determination regarding the firefighter’s status as pending or cleared.
 
Delete page 13-9, lines 10 and 11. Replace the deleted text with the following:
A Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) shall be developed and approved for each field office prior to administering the Work Capacity Test (WCT). See the sample JHA found in Appendix U. Administer the test using the JHA as a briefing guide.
 
Chapter 15
Delete lines 2 through 6 of page 15-6. Replace the deleted text with the following:
 
Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW)
Each engine will have an annually certified weight slip in the vehicle at all times. Operators of engines and water tenders must ensure that the maximum certified GVW is never exceeded, including gear, personnel, and fuel. If the proper number of personnel is not available during the weighing, the NFPA 1906 standard of 250 pounds for each person and their personal gear may be used to calculate the loaded weight.
