Subject: Recipient of the 2007 National Wildland Fire Safety Award

I am pleased to announce that the recipient of the 2007 National Wildland Fire Safety Award is Dylan Rader, Assistant Fire Management Officer for the Elko Field Office and Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) Eastern Nevada Agency.

Dylan volunteered to assist in creating a training program intended to mitigate driving related accidents and vehicle damage for the Nevada fire program. Dylan’s attention to detail, his safety ethic, and his commitment to providing a quality course resulted in an excellent training package that was adopted in part for the national-level engine driver training curriculum.

Runners-up to this award include Chris Simonson, Fire Management Officer for the Twin Falls District and Steve Acarregui, Fire Operations Supervisor for the Boise District. Special mention is given to the Jackson Interagency Hotshot Crew.

My thanks to all who provided nominations and especially to this year’s recipients for their efforts to improve and instill safety as a core value within the Bureau fire and aviation program.
