WASHINGTON -- Robert E. Doyle of Oakton, Virginia, has been named Assistant Director for Business and Fiscal Resources at the Bureau of Land Management, BLM Acting Director Tom Fry announced today.
"Bob brings extensive administrative and management experience to this job," said Fry. "His expertise will serve the BLM well as our agency meets the land-management challenges of the new millennium." In his position, Doyle will oversee matters relating to finance, budget, and acquisition.
Doyle, a 25-year veteran of Federal service, most recently served as Acting Assistant Director of Business and Fiscal Resources. Prior to that, he was Director of the Federal government's helium program.
During his Federal career, Doyle has served as Chief Financial Officer and as Deputy Director and Director for Finance and Administration at the U.S. Bureau of Mines. Doyle began his Federal service in 1974 at the Department of Housing and Urban Development, where he held numerous positions within the management and administrative fields.
Over the past decade, Doyle has played a key role in effecting change within government. His knowledge of data systems and the mortgage underwriting process enabled him to recommend changes that restored financial integrity to the Federal Housing Insurance Fund.
Doyle earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts, and his Masters in Public Administration from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. He also holds a certificate in financial planning.
The BLM, an agency of the U.S. Department of the Interior, manages more land -- 264 million surface acres -- than any other Federal agency. Most of this public land is located in 12 Western states, including Alaska. The Bureau also administers more than 560 million acres of sub-surface mineral estate throughout the nation. The BLM, which has an annual budget of more than $1.2 billion, carries out its land-management mission with a workforce of about 9,000 employees.
