The Bureau of Land Management will air a live satellite broadcast on Thursday, January 28, to solicit public comments on a proposed new comprehensive oil and gas rule.
The interactive broadcast will air from 12:00pm to 2:00pm EST and can be viewed at BLM's offices on the 7th floor of 1620 L Street, NW, Washington, DC. During the broadcast, BLM oil and gas program staffers will explain the proposed rule, which is aimed at streamlining the BLM's existing oil and gas regulations, giving operators more flexibility in meeting agency requirements, and simplifying classification of regulatory violations. The staffers will be available by phone and fax to answer questions about the proposal, which the BLM published in the Federal Register on December 3, 1998.
"The BLM wants the public's input on this proposed rule," said BLM Acting Director Tom Fry. "We hope everyone with an interest in this rule will watch and participate in the broadcast."
The proposed "plain language" rule, which would consolidate most of the BLM's existing oil and gas regulations, is available via Internet through the agency's Home Page. The specific address for the proposed rule is http://www.blm.gov/nhp/news/regulatory/3100p5.html. A fact sheet is also available online ().
