BLM Names New Training Center Director

Bureau of Land Management Director Pat Shea announced today the appointment of Marilyn Johnson as the new Director for the agency's National Training Center in Phoenix, AZ

"Marilyn brings a strong blend of management and people skills to this post," Shea said. "I look forward to her enthusiastic leadership of this important facility."

Johnson, 47, is currently the associate state director for the BLM's Eastern States Office in Springfield, Virginia. She began her federal career in 1971 as an intern with the Department of Army. She has held positions in personnel management and human resources in a variety of agencies, including the Department of Treasury, the Peace Corps, and the Bureau of Mines.

For the last several years, Johnson has managed BLM programs in both field and the headquarters office, including such posts as deputy state director for administration in Arizona, personnel officer in Oregon and assistant director for human resources in the agency's Washington, D.C., office.

"I am delighted to have this opportunity," Johnson said. "The Training Center has long had a reputation for excellence and I look forward to being part of it."

As director of the National Training Center, Johnson will oversee a staff of about 70 and a budget of more than $8.5 million. The National Training Center is a state-of-the art facility that provides education and training for the BLM and other agencies.

Johnson and her husband Bob have two grown children.
