BLM'S Dombeck Honors Petroleum Trade Association

Bureau of Land Management Acting Director Mike Dombeck is honoring the Western States Petroleum Association for its "exceptional support" in helping the BLM improve the way it does business. Dombeck acknowledged the association's efforts by presenting it with a "National Partnership Award."

"The Western States Petroleum Association has been a key partner in working with the BLM on a variety of California-related oil and gas issues," Dombeck said. "With the association's help, the Bureau has effectively addressed local issues involving drilling standards, idle wells, and well abandonment, among others."

In presenting the award, Dombeck also cited the association for its leadership role in the development of Habitat Conservation Plans affecting the San Joaquin Valley of Kern County. In addition, Dombeck praised the association for "giving crucial support" to key BLM oil and gas initiatives, including the recent royalty rate reduction for "heavy" oil.

Dombeck, who noted that the BLM is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, said the Bureau's core mission "is to improve the health and productivity of the land. But to do our job right, we need partners like the Western States Petroleum Association. This National Partnership Award is the BLM's way of expressing our appreciation to the association for helping us fulfill our mission."
