Subject: Designation of Custodial Property Officers
Program Area: Custodial Officer Appointment
Purpose: Several changes in staff positions make it necessary to update the Custodial Officer designations for the Montana State Office.
Policy/Action: A Custodial Officer is defined as the “…local operating official responsible for ensuring individuals within their area of responsibility acquire, maintain and properly use property needed to perform their duties and identify unneeded property for disposal.” Custodial Officers are normally supervisors, are appointed by the Accountable Officer, and are identified in the Financial Business Management System (FBMS) as “Custodial Officers.” (See BLM Handbook G-1520-1, General Operations Procedures, V. Accountability, Part I.)
Listed below are the current updates, all other custodial officers will remain the same.

Timeframe: These appointments are effective the date of this memorandum.
Budget Impact: No budget impact is anticipated.
Background: There have recently been several staff changes that necessitated an update of the appointments.
Manual/Handbook Sections Affected: No updates or corrections of the BLM 1520 Manual are required.
Coordination: All coordination was done internally.
