Information Bulletin No. MT-2009-034
To: All Montana/Dakotas Employees
Attn: GIS Specialists
From: Deputy State Director, Division of Support Services
Subject: Geographic Information System (GIS) Conferences
The purpose of this Information Bulletin is to provide all employees with reference material as to what GIS conferences are held throughout the United States.
In addressing Goal 6 of the Geospatial Strategic Plan for Montana/Dakotas (Institute an effective education and outreach program to assist all Bureau of Land Management (BLM), Montana/Dakotas employees in using geospatial technology to efficiently support business requirements) the GIS Steering Committee requested this material be distributed to all Montana/Dakotas employees. These conferences provide a forum for training, exchanging knowledge and data, and exploring new directions.
Attachment 1 identifies key conferences throughout the Unites States. There are three conferences in particular that managers should consider sending employees to: (1) BLM sponsored GeoSpatial 09 Conference, (2) the Intermountain GIS User’s Conference, and (3) The Northwest GIS User Group Conference and Training. All three of these conferences cover a broad spectrum of topics but strongly represent the integration of GIS technology within resource management programs. Their focus is extremely pertinent to the application of GIS technologies within the Bureau.
If you have any questions in regard to any of the conferences please contact Kathie Jewell, at (406) 896‑5144.
