Subject:    In-State Preparedness Review and Corrective Actions                             DD:  7/1/2008

Program Area: Fire Management and Aviation.

Purpose: The State Office is responsible for ensuring follow-up to unit level and statewide recommendations. A written action plan must be submitted for approval to the State Fire Management Officer for each item on the unit checklists which is shown as Needs Improvement (NI). In addition, any statewide issues specific to your fire program should be addressed. The action plan must include corrective action taken and a due date for completion.

Each Fire Management Officer should have a complete write-up of statewide and zone findings and recommendations as well as completed checklists for those items reviewed. Action plans need to be submitted to the State Fire Management Officer by July 1, 2008.

Policy/Action: In order to meet Federal Wildland Fire Policy, an in-state review was conducted during the week of June 2 through June 6, 2008. Fire preparedness reviews assess fire programs for compliance with established fire policies and procedures as outlined in the current Interagency Standards for Fire and Fire Aviation Operations and other pertinent policy documents. Reviews identify organizational, operational, procedural, personnel, or equipment deficiencies, and recommend specific corrective actions.

Timeframe: Action plans should be submitted to the State Fire Management Officer by July 1, 2008.

Budget Impact: Minimal

Contact: If there are any questions regarding these responses or write-ups, please contact Phil Gill at 406-896-2914 or Ken Schmid at 406-896-2919.
