Information Bulletin No. MT-2007-049
To: All Montana/Dakotas Employees
Attn: Planning
From: State Director
Subject: Public Comment Language
The Montana State Office has received notice that the following language is to be used when requesting public comments. The Washington Office is developing an instruction memorandum. In the meantime, offices shall begin using this language in Federal Register notices for resource management plans, environmental impact statements, and in other documents where we have used the Privacy Act language regarding commenters names and addresses. Apparently, the language in the 1610 Planning Handbook is no longer applicable.
New language:
“Before including your address, phone number, e-mail address, or other personal identifying information in your comment, you should be aware that your entire comment – including your personal identifying information – may be made publicly available at any time. While you can ask us in your comment to withhold your personal identifying information from public review, we cannot guarantee that we will be able to do so.”
At this time, this is all the direction that has been received. Further instruction will be forthcoming when the WO IM is published. Please direct any questions to Debbie DeBock, State FOIA/PA Officer, at (406) 896-5157.
