Attention: Outdoor Recreation Planners
From: Deputy State Director, Division of Resources
Subject: Government Performance and Results Act (GPRA) 2007 Survey
The purpose of this IB is to provide information regarding compliance with Bureau directive and WO IB 2006-095 for Visitor Satisfaction Surveys, through calendar year 2007. Montana must pick two sites in their respective area of jurisdiction for visitor satisfaction surveying.
The BLM’s 2007 AWP for the 1220 program directs,
“...each State shall select two recreation sites at which to conduct visitor surveys. One of the selected sites should be an interpretive site or visitor center facility.”
As in 2006, the BLM visitor survey project will be managed by WO-250/NSTC. This annual visitor survey provides the BLM with both data for reporting results using national performance measures and information regarding visitors’ satisfaction with value for fees paid. Sites selected need to distribute 350-400 surveys in a 2-month period. The sites must have adequate onsite staffing to distribute the surveys and these sites must have facilities providing recreation opportunities and benefits. One site must provide interpretive programming. The last 2 years of GPRA surveys in Montana includedSchnell Recreation Area and Pompeys Pillar National Monument in 2005 andKipp Campground and Garnet Ghost Town in 2006.
Pompeys Pillar National Monument Interpretive Center (Billings Field Office) and the Devil’s Elbow Campground (Butte Field Office) have agreed to complete this surveying effort for 2007.
