The mission of the Billings Interagency Dispatch Center (BDC) is to provide initial attack and extended attack dispatch services through the cost-effective dispatching, timely coordination and support of all incidents, as well as prescribed fire and non-fire incidents within the Eastern Montana Zone of Northern Rockies (EMZNR).
BDC provides support and coordination of the Northern Rockies Native American Crew (NAC) and dispatches and coordinates two Eastern Montana Zone Northern Rockies Type II teams. This is accomplished through resource priority setting, planning, communications, situation monitoring, needs projection, and safe expediting of resources among federal and state agencies and local cooperators.
The BDC provides initial attack dispatching of wildland fires occurring on BLM land in the Billings Field Office, USFS Beartooth Ranger District of the Custer National Forest, and Southern Lands Office of the Montana Department of Natural Resources & Conservation. The BDC is located in Billings, Montana, and incorporates the following cooperating agencies: Bureau of Land Management – Billings Field Office and Montana State Office, United States Forest Service – Custer National Forest, Montana Department of Natural Resources & Conservation – Southern Land Office, and Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) - Rocky Mountain Regional Office.
The BDC area encompasses the above mentioned agencies and includes: Crow Forestry, Northern Cheyenne Agency, Fort Peck Agency, and the Rocky Mountain Regional Office of the BIA. The boundaries extend from an area south of the Snowy Mountains in the north to the Wyoming border in the south and from Hysham in the east to the Crazy Mountains and Beartooth Mountain Divide in the west.
