District Manager Rick Hotaling
Western Montana District
Rick Hotaling is the District Manager for the Western Montana District, which incorporates the Dillon, Missoula, and Butte Field Offices. The offices within the district are responsible for a wide range of BLM programs, with a large emphasis on range, recreation, forestry, and mining. Hotaling started his federal career with the Department of Interior, Minerals Management Service in Anchorage, Alaska, as a petroleum engineer working offshore oil and gas exploration. His career with the BLM started in Dickinson, N.D. and he has since worked for the BLM in Malta and Butte, Mont. in management positions. Prior to being appointed as the Western Montana District manager, he was the field manager for the Butte Field Office. He also serves on a Northern Rockies Interagency Management Team for fire. Rick received his B.S. in Geological Engineering from the Montana College of Mineral Science and Technology (Montana Tech).
