Stephen (Steve) R. Thompson, Deputy State Director-Support Services
Steve Thompson recently joined the Montana/Dakotas organization as Deputy State Director, Support Services, overseeing the business side of BLM operations. Such programs as budget, business and fiscal resources, engineering, property and fleet management, information resources management, and human resources fall under his watch. Thompson’s goal is to inspire and enable the entire Montana/Dakotas team towards fulfilling the State Director’s priorities. He accomplishes this by providing unmatched customer service across the spectrum of Support Services by listening to people and focusing on their needs. Prior to joining the BLM, Thompson worked for the Federal Emergency Management Agency as a Federal Coordinating Officer covering numerous incidents. Prior to joining FEMA, Thompson completed over 21 years in the United States Air Force where he held a variety of unique operational and administrative leadership positions. He is a graduate of Texas State University with a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree and earned a Master of Administrative Sciences Degree in Management from the University of Montana. He’s also a graduate of Air Command and Staff College and Air War College from the Air Force’s Air University and Joint Forces Staff College from National Defense University. Thompson enjoys spending time with his family and looks forward to living in Montana.
