State Director's Top 10 Priorities

As sound investments go, the BLM is one of the best. While we are the largest land manager in the nation, we accomplish our complex mission with only 10,000 employees bureau-wide who contribute to everything from energy production to recreational opportunities, all the time maintaining a high standard of customer service. Here in the Montana/Dakotas, where there are roughly 700 of us, it’s no different. Each employee plays a part in carrying out the priorities of both Secretary Salazar and Director Abbey, and in turn, my priorities. Yes, BLM Montana/Dakotas is also a sound investment for America.

With assignments as large and sometimes difficult as ours, it’s no wonder we run short of time and resources. All our work has value, but when we have to choose priorities, we need to focus on those that give the greatest return on America’s investment. The State Director’s Top 10 priorities are based on Departmental goals, fit in with the BLM Montana/Dakotas strategic priorities, and were validated by the BLM Montana/Dakotas State Leadership Team during its last meeting.

Yes, accomplishing our mission will always be a challenge, but our track record proves that we’re capable. We have the skills, knowledge, and dedication, and we know how to make the most of our time and resources through collaborative partnerships. I think it’s safe to say that most of us are here because of our passion for public lands, as much as for a satisfying career.

Jamie Connell, State Director
