BLM installs new Miles City field manager
MILES CITY, Mont. --- Todd Yeager was recently selected as the new Field Manager for the BLM Miles City Field Office headquartered in Miles City, Mont.
Yeager has been serving as the Assistant Field Manager for Renewable Resources and was appointed to head the field office effective Sept. 23, replacing former field manager Debbie Johnson who retired last June.
Yeager has a significant work history locally with the BLM, beginning as a rangeland management specialist in 2001 and receiving a promotion to supervisory rangeland specialist in 2004.
He has a Master of Science in Rangeland Ecology and Watershed Management from the University of Wyoming, and a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture Education from Texas Tech University. Yeager is also a recent graduate from the BLM’s Leadership Academy, a 12-month program that prepares individuals for management and leadership positions within the bureau.
“We are very excited to have Todd step up into the Field Manager role for the Miles City Field Office, said Eastern Montana – Dakotas District Manager Diane Friez. “He brings outstanding leadership and communication skills to the position and has excellent rapport with many of the stakeholders we deal with here in Eastern Montana. Todd’s years of experience with BLM in the range program, as well as other resource programs, will serve him well in his new role.”
The Miles City Field Office area of responsibility covers roughly the eastern third of the state of Montana and administers more than 2.7 million surface acres of public land and over 12.4 million acres of subsurface mineral estate. It also oversees the largest grazing program in the BLM.

The BLM manages more than 245 million acres of public land, the most of any Federal agency. This land, known as the National System of Public Lands, is primarily located in 12 Western states, including Alaska. The BLM also administers 700 million acres of sub-surface mineral estate throughout the nation. In Fiscal Year (FY) 2011, recreational and other activities on BLM-managed land contributed more than $130 billion to the U.S. economy and supported more than 600,000 American jobs. The Bureau is also one of a handful of agencies that collects more revenue than it spends. In FY 2012, nearly $5.7 billion will be generated on lands managed by the BLM, which operates on a $1.1 billion budget. The BLM's multiple-use mission is to sustain the health and productivity of the public lands for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations. The Bureau accomplishes this by managing such activities as outdoor recreation, livestock grazing, mineral development, and energy production, and by conserving natural, historical, cultural, and other resources on public lands.
