The Bureau of Land Management’s HiLine District (BLM) would like to remind hunters and other outdoor enthusiasts to be mindful of travel and camping regulations on BLM-administered lands and to be respectful of private landowners and other public land users. In order to minimize user conflicts and to protect wildlife habitat and fragile soils, all wheeled motorized vehicle travel (this includes tracked vehicles) is restricted to established roads and trails. Visitors are highly encouraged to carry a map and check with area administrative offices for current travel information and potential fire restrictions. Here are a few other reminders when recreating on public lands:
Violations can be reported by calling 1-800- TIP-MONT (1-800-847-6668). Additional information can be obtained by visiting the web at http://www.blm.gov/mt/st/en/prog/recreation or by calling or visiting one of the local BLM field offices (654-5100 for Malta, 228-3750 for Glasgow, 262-2820 for Havre). |

The BLM manages more than 245 million acres of public land, the most of any Federal agency. This land, known as the National System of Public Lands, is primarily located in 12 Western states, including Alaska. The BLM also administers 700 million acres of sub-surface mineral estate throughout the nation. The BLM's multiple-use mission is to sustain the health, diversity, and productivity of the public lands for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations. In Fiscal Year 2012, activities on public lands generated $4.6 billion in revenue, much of which was shared with the States where the activities occurred. In addition, public lands contributed more than $112 billion to the U.S. economy and helped support more than 500,000 jobs. |
