BLM Offers Helpful Tips For Antelope Hunters
The BLM Miles City Field Office would like to remind antelope hunters headed to the field this opening weekend to respect landowners, wildlife and other recreationists and to be mindful of travel and camping restrictions on BLM-administered lands.

Also, BLM or U.S. Forest Service offices may close or open particular routes in their respective districts. Hunters are highly encouraged to carry a map and check with local BLM or USFS offices to obtain current travel information.
Responsible behavior on public and private lands leads to continued access: “Respected Access is Open Access.”
- Stay on existing roads and trails.
- Know where you are at and get permission to cross private land.
- Check the rules before you go. All state rules and regulations apply on federal lands.
- Plan your stay. Camping in one spot on undeveloped BLM-administered land is allowed for 16 days maximum. Other restrictions may also apply.
- Pack it in, Pack it out. All garbage must be removed, including hides from game animals.
- Removal of historic, archeological or paleontological resources from federal land is prohibited.
- Wash vehicles before and after traveling roads and trails to avoid spreading noxious weeds.
- Be aware of current fire restrictions and follow all Montana hunting regulations.
- Watch where you park and check your undercarriage. A number of trucks have burned this year due to accumulated vegetation ignited in the undercarriage. Don’t let this be you.

The BLM manages more than 245 million acres of public land, the most of any Federal agency. This land, known as the National System of Public Lands, is primarily located in 12 Western states, including Alaska. The BLM also administers 700 million acres of sub-surface mineral estate throughout the nation. In Fiscal Year (FY) 2011, recreational and other activities on BLM-managed land contributed more than $130 billion to the U.S. economy and supported more than 600,000 American jobs. The Bureau is also one of a handful of agencies that collects more revenue than it spends. In FY 2012, nearly $5.7 billion will be generated on lands managed by the BLM, which operates on a $1.1 billion budget. The BLM's multiple-use mission is to sustain the health and productivity of the public lands for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations. The Bureau accomplishes this by managing such activities as outdoor recreation, livestock grazing, mineral development, and energy production, and by conserving natural, historical, cultural, and other resources on public lands.
