BLM Council to Meet in Havre |

The Bureau of Land Management’s Central Montana Resource Advisory Council (RAC) will meet September 15 & 16, at the Best Western Great Northern Inn, in Havre, Montana. The September 15 meeting will begin at 10:00 a.m. with a one-hour public comment period. Throughout the balance of the day there will be presentations about a Department of the Interior Bison Initiative, the 2009 RAC work plan, Devon Oil and Gas plans, and the status of the HiLIne Resource Management Plan. This meeting is scheduled to break for lunch between 11:45 and 12:45 and will adjourn at 5:00 p.m. The September 16 meeting will begin at 8:00 a.m. with a 30-minute public comment period. The council will then hear/act upon field manager updates, information from the oil and gas field station in Great Falls, discussions about future BLM projects requesting RAC participation and will conclude with administrative details (next meeting topics, dates and location). This meeting will adjourn at 12:15 p.m. The Central Montana Resource Advisory Council is a 15-member citizen advisory group that closely involves members of the public with Bureau of Land Management resource decisions. |

The BLM manages more than 245 million acres of public land, the most of any Federal agency. This land, known as the National System of Public Lands, is primarily located in 12 Western states, including Alaska. The BLM also administers 700 million acres of sub-surface mineral estate throughout the nation. In Fiscal Year (FY) 2011, recreational and other activities on BLM-managed land contributed more than $130 billion to the U.S. economy and supported more than 600,000 American jobs. The Bureau is also one of a handful of agencies that collects more revenue than it spends. In FY 2012, nearly $5.7 billion will be generated on lands managed by the BLM, which operates on a $1.1 billion budget. The BLM's multiple-use mission is to sustain the health and productivity of the public lands for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations. The Bureau accomplishes this by managing such activities as outdoor recreation, livestock grazing, mineral development, and energy production, and by conserving natural, historical, cultural, and other resources on public lands. |
