BLM Releases Final Assessment
The Bureau of Land Management’s Lewistown Field Office (BLM) has completed the final environmental assessment (EA) for the Northeast Fergus Watershed Area.
The EA assesses resource conditions on 59,418 acres of BLM-administered public lands encompassing 34 BLM grazing allotments in Fergus County. It also identifies and evaluates management actions needed to ensure that rangeland health standards are met, and that livestock grazing practices conform with management guidelines.
Now that the final EA is completed, individual proposed decisions are being issued on each of the 43 grazing permits associated with the 34 allotments. The decisions will result in cancellation of the existing permits and issuance of new 10-year grazing permits. The new permits will be issued with terms and conditions based on the proposed action and will incorporate the standards and guidelines for rangeland health as shown in appendices A and C of the final EA.
If you have any questions or are interested is reviewing a copy of the final EA, please contact Willy Frank at (406) 538-1900. The final EA is also available on the BLM website at: http://www.blm.gov/mt/st/en/fo/lewistown_field_office/Watershed_Plans.html.
