Public Meetings Scheduled on Salvage Treatments
The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) along with the Montana Department of Natural Resources (DNRC) will co-host a public meeting Wednesday, February 4, from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. at the Lewistown Field Office (920 NE Main Street) to discuss the Limekiln Canyon /Ruby Gulch Salvage and Forest Health Treatments Project.
This project (commonly called the Lime/Ruby Salvage) proposes treating approximately 400 acres of forested land that was damaged by a windstorm last spring. The project includes up to 7 miles of new roads and harvesting approximately 3 million board feet of downed timber beginning as early as this July.
The BLM and DNRC have jointly prepared a Preliminary Environmental Assessment (EA) to present to the public for a 30-day comment period. The comment period will begin February 4.
“Beginning on February 4, the public can find the EA on-line at www.blm.gov/mt/st/en/fo/lewistown_field_office/
; or obtain a hard copy or compact disc version from the BLM’s Lewistown Field Office,” said Bruce Reid, a forester with the BLM.
If you are unable to attend this meeting, but would like to be kept informed, or if you have questions or comments, please contact Bruce Reid with the BLM at 406 538-1960 or Ron Buck with the DNRC at 406 538-7789.
