Canaday Boat Launch To Be Temporarily Closed

Dillon--The Bureau of Land Management’s Dillon Field Office will close the Canaday boat launch May 3-6 to rebuild the badly eroding streambank. A combination of factors--including recreation use--has resulted in the loss of streamside vegetation, causing the erosion.

The site is located on the Madison River east of Norris between Black’s Ford Fishing Access Site and Warm Springs Boat Launch.

The site is noted for the presence of outstanding pre-historic and historic resources. It was a key stop along the historic Bozeman Trail and the location of the Canaday brothers historic bridge crossing which was constructed under charter by the first Territorial Legislature.

For more information regarding the closure or the planned project, please contact the Dillon Field Office at (406) 683-8000.
