Prescribed Burns Planned Near Butte, Divide, and Wise River
Smoke may be visible in the Butte, Divide, and Wise River areas over the next few months as the Bureau of Land Management conducts three prescribed fires.
Each burn will be initiated only under favorable weather conditions, and burn days will vary. Fire crews will continue to monitor the areas after burning is completed.
The first project is in the Southwest Highlands, about five miles northeast of Divide and 20 miles south of Butte. The objective is to maintain or enhance vegetation structure and diversity to mimic the natural fire regime in fire-dependent grasslands, shrub lands, and dry forest communities.
The second project is in the Tie Creek Area, about three miles west of Wise River, where residual slash piles from the Pattengail Fire will be burned.
Third, in the Deep Creep area about ten miles northwest of Wise River, slash piles from previously harvested units will be burned.
