Butte BLM Seeks Input On Weed Plan Revision

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Butte Field Office is updating its weed management plan and is seeking public input to identify criteria to prioritize treatment areas and other weed related issues.

The plan will address integrated weed management of BLM administered lands located in the upper Big Hole River corridor in Beaverhead County and all BLM lands in Broadwater, Deer Lodge, Gallatin, Jefferson, Lewis and Clark, Park, and Silver Bow Counties.

BLM intends to adopt provisions outlined in the bureau-wide environmental impact statement approved last fall on use of herbicides, as well as address some local issues and strategies. While specific areas for treatment will not be addressed in the Butte Field Office update, criteria will be outlined for use in prioritizing treatment areas, and topics such as ground application, aerial application, biological controls, use of pesticides, and education and research efforts will be discussed.

Interested individuals or groups are encouraged to submit any issues or concerns for consideration and review by April 4, 2008, to Butte BLM Weed Plan, 106 North Parkmont, Butte, MT 59701.

For more information or to place your name on the mailing list for this project, contact Renee Johnson or Lacy Decker at (406) 533-7600 or by email at MT_Butte_FO@blm.gov. Please put “weed plan revision” in the subject line.
