Dillon BLM Plans Prescribed Burns Near Alder
Individuals interested in learning more about prescribed burns planned for this year in the Laurin Canyon, Pierce Canyon, and Barton Gulch areas are invited to an informational meeting on March 11 at the Alder Fire Hall at 5 p.m.
The Bureau of Land Management in Dillon is planning to treat approximately 1,112 acres with prescribed fire in the project area. “Treating the areas identified as wildland-urban interface (WUI) will reduce the risk of intense wildfire and reduce the encroachment of juniper and Douglas-fir into areas that historically have been grass and sage,” stated George Johnson, BLM fuels specialist.
At the meeting, BLM specialists will share information on the burn objectives, timing of the burns and answer any questions the public may have on prescribed fire treatments.
For a map of the project area, or if you want more information prior to the meeting, please contact George Johnson at 683-8047 or Kipper Blotkamp at 683-8022.
