The Bureau of Land Management is offering firewood near Sturgis, S.D.

About 50 cords of firewood are cut into 10-20 foot lengths and piled at the Fort Meade Trailhead which is located at the junction of Highway 34 and the BLM Road.  There are also some firewood lengths available.

Interested parties need to purchase a firewood permit from the South Dakota Field Office at 310 Roundup Street in Belle Fourche. Permits cost $5 per cord with a four cord minimum.  Instructions and directions on how to get to the firewood will be given upon purchase of a permit.

The firewood is the result of an ongoing project to reduce hazardous fuels and to improve forest health.
