BLM Hosts Pumpkin Creek Information Open House

The BLM invites the public to attend an informal open house to discuss an interim management plan for the recently acquired Pumpkin Creek ranch May 1 at the Miles City Field Office main conference room, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The interim management plan will guide the parameters for activities in the area until a final management plan is in place. The BLM is looking to gather input from a variety of individuals and groups interested in sharing their perspectives regarding possible activities on this block of public land.

Topics will include hunting and shooting, road access, OHV use, dispersed recreation options, fire management, grazing and a range of improvement projects.

“The more we can talk with our interested groups and citizens, the better interim and final plan we can build,” said Elaine Raper, field manager for the Miles City Field Office. “Folks have expressed interest in what’s going to happen out on Pumpkin Creek and this is an opportunity to share ideas.”

The BLM is currently in the second phase of the Pumpkin Creek land exchange, the majority of the ranch having been secured as public land earlier this year on Feb. 20. At a later date, the public will be given the opportunity to comment on phase two. The meeting details will be provided via press release. The BLM Pumpkin Creek area is located about 15 miles south of Miles City. Once phase two of the land exchange is completed it will provide a 20,578 acre block for the public to enjoy.
