BLM Seeking Information on Vandals
The BLM Miles City Field Office is seeking information regarding the person or persons responsible for a recent string of vandalism incidents at the Matthews Recreation Area located about nine miles northeast of Miles City on Valley Drive East.
Portions of the picnic kiosk were destroyed as well as an underground sewage pipe connected to the on-site latrine. Sign theft, off-road tire ruts, littering and hole-digging were also included in the list of recent violations at this popular local resource.
The vandalism damage will exceed $1,000 according to BLM officials.
The Matthews Recreation Area is public land maintained and administered by the BLM for the benefit of everyone. Users are encouraged to treat the area responsibly so that others can benefit from a clean, safe outdoor experience as well.
Violations can be reported by calling the BLM Miles City Field Office at 233-2800 or by calling the Custer County Sherriff’s office at 232-3411.
