BLM Announces Public Meetings for SEIS
The Bureau of Land Management has scheduled a series of meetings to gather public comments on the Draft Supplemental Oil and Gas Environmental Impact Statement. The SEIS evaluates the effects of phased development of coal bed natural gas in southeastern Montana.
The public meetings will be held from 6-8 p.m. at the following locations: Broadus, Community Center, March 26; Billings, Montana State University Student Union Building Ballroom, March 27; Hardin, Courthouse Board Room, March 28; Lame Deer, Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church Meeting Room, March 29; and Miles City, Miles Community College, Rooms 106 and 107, March 30.
The public meetings will be held in an “open house” format with BLM managers and resource specialists available to answer questions concerning the document. Forms will be available at each meeting for persons wishing to submit written comments.
A court reporter will also be available at each meeting for those who want to provide oral comments. If several people wish to make oral comments, individual time limits may be imposed in order to allow everyone a chance to speak.
Interested parties have until May 2, 2007 to comment on the draft document. Copies of the Draft SEIS have been mailed to individuals and groups who have previously requested them.
The supplement will amend the 2003 Montana Statewide Oil and Gas Environmental Impact Statement and Amendment of the Powder River and Billings Resource Management Plans when finalized. The planning area covered by the SEIS includes the oil and gas estate administered by the BLM within the Powder River and Billings Resource Management Plan areas.
