BLM Seeks Comment on Bentonite Mine EA
The Bureau of Land Management Miles City Field Office and the Montana Department of Environmental Quality are seeking public comments regarding a proposed bentonite mine plan amendment for operations near Alzada in Carter County.
The BLM and DEQ will accept comments on the jointly-prepared Environmental Assessment and Finding of No Significant Impact for a 30-day period which will end on Aug. 13, 2007.
American Colloid Company has submitted a proposal to amend its bentonite mine plan to add 567.5 acres to the permit; of which 299.8 acres are BLM-administered federal lands and 267.7 acres are private lands. According to the proposal, a total of 160 acres (92.9 acres of federal and 66.8 acres of private) would be disturbed.
To obtain a copy of the EA or to submit comments, contact BLM Solid Minerals Geologist Dan Benoit at the BLM Miles City Field Office, 111 Garryowen Road, Miles City, MT 59301; or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org. An electronic version of the EA is also available at http://www.blm.gov/mt/st/en/fo/miles_city_field_office.html .
