BILLINGS -- Seasonal jobs with the Bureau of Land Management for the summer of 2007 are still available for application. Opportunities are available for summer seasonal positions as well as student temporary positions.

Employment opportunities under the Student Temporary Experience Program (STEP) are in the fields of archeology, biological sciences, firefighting, dispatch, and park maintenance. To view STEP vacancy announcements, go to http://www.mt.blm.gov/hrm/seep.html. The application deadlines for STEP positions are in January and February.

In addition, numerous seasonal fire positions are being advertised, including firefighting, dispatch, lookout, engine and helitack operations.  The application deadline for most of the fire vacancy announcements is April 15, but selecting officials are obtaining certificates of eligible candidates beginning this month.

Other available seasonal positions are in the fields of archeology, biology, cartography,
engineering, forestry, hydrology, physical science, range, realty, and survey. Maintenance
workers, laborers, and park rangers are also needed.

Applications for fire positions will be accepted through https://jobs1.quickhire.com/scripts/doiff.exe. If you wish to obtain additional information such as tips on applying, resume completion, and faxing information, go to www.firejobs.doi.gov
Applications for non-fire positions will be accepted through https://jobs.quickhire.com/scripts/blm.exe

Duty locations for all the positions are identified on these websites.

To be eligible for any of the positions outlined above, an applicant must be at least 18 years of age and a citizen of the United States; have a current, valid driver's license; pass a pre-employment physical; and successfully complete a background check. Applicants for fire positions must also successfully complete a work capacity test (a three-mile hike over level terrain with a 45-pound pack within 45 minutes) and submit to a drug screening test before they can be hired.
In addition, applicants for STEP positions must be enrolled, or accepted for enrollment, as a degree-seeking (diploma, certificate, etc.) student in an accredited high school, technical or vocational school, two- or four-year college or university, graduate or professional school. If the student is enrolled, the student must be taking at least a half-time academic/vocational or technical course load with a 2.0 GPA or better.
