Dakotas BLM to Host Planning Open House
The Bureau of Land Management will hold a public open house on January 10 regarding the new North Dakota and South Dakota resource management plans (RMPs).
The open house will take place at the 4 Bears Casino & Lounge in New Town, N.D., from 12:30 to 4 p.m., following the Mandan, Hidatsa, Arikara Nation Tribal Council meeting. Staff and managers from the BLM will be available to share information and receive comments on the North Dakota and South Dakota RMPs.
The BLM plans to hold similar meetings in conjunction with other tribal councils in North and South Dakota.
RMPs are land use plans that consider management options for BLM-administered lands and minerals. The North Dakota RMP will provide future direction for about 58,000 surface acres and more than 4.1 million subsurface acres (minerals) in the state. The South Dakota Resource Management Plan will address about 278,000 surface acres and over 1.6 million subsurface acres in the state.
The current RMPs were finalized in the late 1980s and are available at: http://www.blm.gov/mt/st/en/prog/planning.1.html.
Comments or questions on the North Dakota and South Dakota RMPs should be addressed to: John Hartley, RMP Manager, BLM North Dakota Field Office, 99 23rd Ave West, Suite A, Dickinson, ND 58601-2619, phone 701-227-7742.
