BLM Plans To Permit Snowmobile Ride
The BLM Dillon Field Office plans to renew a Special Recreation Permit that will allow the Montana Snowmobile Association to pass through the Axolotl Lakes Wilderness Study Area in conjunction with the Trans-Montana Snowmobile Charity Ride, a benefit for multiple sclerosis. The ride will take place January 25, 2008.
The permit will allow approximately 30 riders to travel along the groomed designated route from Virginia City up Bachelor Gulch, through the Axolotl Lakes WSA and onto the National Forest. This will be the sixth year the Bureau of Land Management has authorized the Montana Snowmobile Association to conduct this event on public land. The Forest Service has authorized this event on National Forests from the Canadian border to Idaho since 1993.
