Pompeys Pillar National Monument to Open For Season
Pompeys Pillar National Monument will open for the season on Monday, April 30, a month earlier than usual. The historic site is 25 miles east of Billings off Interstate 94. Admission is $7 per vehicle.
The site will be open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. from April 30 through May 25, and then 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. from May 26 through September 3. From September 4 through October 28, the site will be open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Although the interpretive center will close for the season October 28, visitors may still walk in to the site during daylight hours.
The $7 per vehicle admission fee includes occupants and is charged from April 30 to October 28 when full services are provided. Interagency passes will also be honored. Daily fees and/or interagency season and senior passes may be purchased on-site or at the Information Access Center at the Bureau of Land Management Montana State Office, 5001 Southgate Drive, in Billings. Fees are returned to the site to provide extra services for the public.
A paved road, parking lot, entry station and outdoor amphitheater are under construction and will be available to the public early this season, depending on weather and construction schedules. A new interpretive center and extensive walkway system opened to the public last year.
