The Missouri Breaks Interpretive Center offers a variety of educational programs for classes that visit the facility. We developed these programs to meet the educational objectives
of the center and the state of Montana.
Educational programs are available for school
groups, K-12, by reservation. Students who visit the center are given the opportunity to explore Native American culture, learn the about the geology and wildlife of the region, and study aquatic ecology and many other topics. Our programs correlate with curricula on earth science, biology, social studies, and Indian Education for All. Some examples are: - It’s All in Your Head focuses on comparative anatomy of mammals found within the Monument and Montana.
- Which Way Did They Go? teaches students the different mapping styles used throughout history and also gives them opportunity to create their own maps and follow maps created by their fellow students.
- Bullwhacker Freight Company is a program for students in grades 4–7 that focuses on the historical transportation methods of freighting with Murphy freight wagons.
- Monumental Geology includes a fun activity about dinosaur digestion as well as giving students the opportunity to test their teams’ driving skills in a competition at Mineral Alley.
- Must Cultures Collide? provides an in-depth look at the Nez Perce War of 1877, revealing not only commonalities and differences in our cultures but understanding the “24 precious hours” that were pivotal to the non-treaty Nez Perce quest for freedom.
