The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is developing a new resource management plan (RMP) for public lands and mineral estates in South Dakota. The plan, known as the South Dakota Resource Management Plan, will provide future direction for approximately 274,000 surface acres and over 1.7 million acres of mineral estate (subsurface acres) in the state. An environmental impact statement (EIS) is also being prepared as part of the planning process.

The purpose of the plan is to establish guidance, objectives, policies, and management actions for BLM-administered public lands for the next 10 to 15 years.

An integral component of the South Dakota RMP is public involvement. Throughout the project, stakeholders and residents will have opportunities to participate and share their insights and comments.

This website is your source of information for participating in the planning process. Here you will find the latest information on the development of the RMP and the EIS, including background documents, maps, meeting announcements, published bulletins, and other documents.
