Miles City Fire Cache

The Miles City Fire Cache is a local area interagency support cache located in Miles City, Montana. The inventory of standard and specialized items was established for the support and resupply of fire remote stations or Type III incidents and smaller.

The Logistics Coordinator is assigned the duty of maintaining cache levels, supplying the remote stations, working on buying teams, shipping to the incidents, and inspecting fire equipment. It is the responsibility of the Logistics Coordinator to obtain from the Field Operations Supervisors/ Station Managers a complete inventory of their fire station each year. For the Miles City Fire Cache, an upper and lower limit is established for all materials directly connected to fire. This allows a reasonable amount of supplies to outfit remote fire stations.

All incident procurement, including replenishment, is processed through normal channels. This means ordering material through dispatch on a resource order form. These include incident support, emergency replenishment, hazardous fuels reduction, prepositioning , projects and training. Orders will be placed by the Field Operations Supervisors/ Station Managers or designated representative and Incident Commanders.

The Miles City Fire Cache is not a hazardous materials disposal facility. All fueled equipment and fuel containers must be emptied and purged before shipping back to the cache. Propane tanks and “jerry” safety cans must be put in open pickup boxes in order to be transported.

It is the responsibility of the receiving unit to see that all accountable property and other goods are returned to the cache at the end of the fire season or fire incident. It is the responsibility of the receiving unit to prepare reports of lost, stolen or damaged items at the time of discovery. It will be reported on a Property Loss or Damage Report (OF-288) or a local Equipment Loss Report.
