Continuous Learning Opportunities

Through BLM's National Training Center (NTC) in Phoenix, Arizona, both new and seasoned BLM employees participate in over 200 classroom and web-based courses annually.

In addition, the NTC broadcasts instructional television and live leadership messages to over 130 BLM Satellite Network sites nationally. The NTC's full-service television capability facilitates ongoing communication between leadership and field employees about policy and organizational change.

To supplement the NTC's services, BLM employees have access to the following job-related training resources.

  • The Department of the Interior's (DOI) employee training, DOI University and the DOI Learn on-line system.
  • The training facilities and systems of other Federal agencies, such as the USDA Graduate School and the Defense Acquisition University.
  • Classroom and on-line training provided by private industry sources.
  • Degree and certificate programs offered by colleges, universities, and technical schools.
  • Lectures and symposiums provided at professional conferences, career fairs, and similar events.

Finally, the most important training resource for BLM employees is the day-to-day experience in the field or office, learning from both individual and group accomplishments.

At the BLM, we encourage knowledge sharing through short and long-term work details. We offer sabbatical and mobility programs. We encourage mentorship at every level so that our seasoned professionals can share their valuable experience and the organization's history with our future leaders.  Of course, there are also opportunities from the elder to learn from those they mentor!
