Interagency Efforts Step Up with Firewise Program
The Twin Falls District and Fire and Aviation program along with the Mid Snake RC&D are taking measures to help educate and assist homeowners to protect their properties from wildfire. A public meeting was held August 9 to initiate the first steps of the program. Homeowners gave the approval for officials to provide them with home assessments to determine their wildfire risk. Once all assessments are complete, fire officials will meet with the homeowners again to discuss possible solutions to living in the wildland urban interface. Recent fire activity and damaged property near Twin Falls initiated new interest in the project.

You're invited to learn about wildfire!
The Twin Falls Fire and Aviation Prevention staff presented information to both young and old at Craters of the Moon National Monument on August 7. Staff participated in a junior rangers program and an informative adult session on the impacts of wildfire. The junior rangers program is aimed at familiarizing children about firefighting and the job of a firefighter, while the adult presentation is focused on the costs and damages of wildfire and ways in which people can help. There were games, demonstrations and knowledgeable staff on hand to answer questions.

Twin Falls District Fire and Aviation Conduct Firewise Assessments
The BLM-ID Twin Falls District Fire and Aviation staff, along with the Mid-Snake Resource Conservation and Development organization and the Rock Creek Rural Fire District, conducted homeowner assessments for the Hidden Lakes subdivision in Hagerman to become a firewise community. Homes will be checked for defensible space and other triggers such as debris filled rain gutters, location of propane tanks and shake roofs.
