Local Geocachers Spearhead Clean-up in Birds of Prey NCA: On December 18, local geocachers volunteered to partner with BLM to help clean-up trash they discovered dumped in the Morley Nelson Snake River Birds of Prey National Conservation Area (NCA). The Kuna ATV Association was also invited to participate. “We appreciate individuals reporting sites where they find trash dumped on public lands and donating their time to help us clean it up, said Jared Fluckiger, outdoor recreation planner for the NCA. “We also appreciate the donation of a 30-yard dumpster and Ada County’s dumping fee waiver.” The geocachers expressed interest in sponsoring more clean-ups in the spring and summer of 2012.

venture out on your treasure hunt, you will learn more about your public lands and visit new and exciting destinations.  Geocache boxes will be hidden throughout Idaho and as you find the locations, you can earn prizes!  Ready to start your adventure?   Read below to find out more. 

What is geocaching?

Geocaching is an outdoor adventure game played by global positioning system (GPS) users. Participants search for hidden containers, called geocaches, and then share their experiences online. Caches are typically waterproof containers of varying sizes and shapes, holding miscellaneous items such as logbooks and trinkets. Individuals and organizations have set up caches all over the world and share the locations on geocaching websites. 

Let's Get Started

1.  Visit our BLM Idaho Geocachers profile page on the National Geocaching website to find a list of our caches.  Note: You must be a member of geocaching.com to view cache boxes. Basic membership is free. Be sure to check back often because we will be adding more sites in the future.

2.  Once you have selected your destination, grab your friends and family, your GPS unit, and begin your journey!

3.  Before you leave or after you return from your adventure, download a BLM Idaho Geocaching Passport book to track your progression. In this book, you will collect electronic stamps (e-stamps) for each location you find. After you have collected 4 stamps for your chosen region of Idaho, you will earn a prize.  Collect one stamp from each BLM district and you will win a special statewide prize. 4.  When you have located a geocache box, you will find instructions inside on how to proceed and to redeem the e-stamp specific to your destination.
